Zone 3 |
A sister grape to St. Croix with better cold hardiness. Reported to be hardy to -35F. It also has very good disease resistance. If picked early, it can make a high acid, medium bodied complex red wine with good tannins not unlike Baco Noir but not as distinctly fruity. Varietal wine has been reported to age well and improve after 2 years in the bottle. A 50-50 blend with Frontenac derived wine has been recommended.
