An early-ripening red variety with small berries, small clusters, and a mild flavor. Used primarily for dessert, juice and white wine. Delaware requires a deep, fertile, well drained soil for satisfactory vine growth; on such, its yields may be as high as those of Concord. On all but the most favorable soils, Delaware should be grafted on phylloxera-resistant rootstock to ensure vigorous growth.

White Wine, Table, Juice or Jelly |
Zone 4 |
Produces early-ripening amber fruit similar to that of its parent, Ontario, but the vine is much more winter hardy. This very early ripening, white grape produces large clusters, and is primarily for table, juice and jelly uses. When the fruit is harvested early, it can also make a sweet white wine with mild, fruity labrusca flavor. The vines have excellent disease resistance but may require winter protection for reliable fruiting in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 and 3. Nice choice for the home gardener.
